Border security is not national security? I beg to differ.
A Mexican drug cartel has put out a million dollar bounty for the head of one of our citizens, a certain sheriff in Arizona.

This is some bad sh#t, people.
My beloved Maria tells me her mother, who lives in Nueva Laredo, cannot safely leave her house now. Gunfire in the streets has become a daily occurrence. Mexican journalists cannot report on the drug gangs' carnage without risking their lives.
All of this makes criticism against Arizona for its immigration stance mighty curious. Especially when we don't see the media going after Sarkozy for France's stiff citizenship requirements . . .
Say, have you tried getting citizenship in Sweden lately? Give it a whirl.
And Obama apologizes about our country's immigration laws to . . . China?!

Now that I'm a resident of the great state of Texas, maybe I'll have to call the highway sign for concealed handgun classes...just so I am prepared.
The legislation Sarkozy is calling for is not about citizenship requirements, as he is not denying citizenship to non-citizens. He is talking about revoking the citizenship of French citizens.
So really, he could be seen as ensuring power for the powerful by further subjugating an already powerless group (namely the Maghreb population with his proposed legislation), or it is just empty political posturing targeted to appeal to Marine LePen supporters (given that what he is proposing will, more likely than not, be ruled unconstitutional by the judiciary).
And many of the Roma he talked about ejecting are from EU countries. Given that France had such a pivotal role in the formation of the EU, it would look bad for them to buck the system. Those people do have a right to be there.
As for the French media not going after him, it depends on which media outlets you follow. France24 schleps the equivalent of AP fodder. Their English translation of the article has significantly softened Sarkozy's words and I think is a bit misleading, particularly for those who are not familiar with ethno-political issues in France.
Sorry, I still don't like Arizona's law. I get the reasoning, just not the execution.
This so-called president has proven the ONLY THING that could have lifted Jimmy Carter from the worst president EVAH, to only one of the worst.
Thanks, Kobico, for pointing out my weak French link.
Here's a better one. I'll summarize it by saying it's a heck of a lot harder to get citizenship in France than it is here, in America. Which, I'm hopeful you surmised, was my point.
